‘Bangladesh Should Be Broken Apart,’ Says Tripura’s ‘King’ in Response to Yunus’ Comments

Banglahunt Desk: During his visit to China, Muhammad Yunus claimed that Bangladesh is the sole maritime guardian for India’s northeastern states. He further stated that there is an opportunity for Chinese economic expansion in that region. Yunus, who served as the chief advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, made these remarks, which have not been well received by Indian politicians and diplomatic experts. Both the BJP and the Congress have strongly criticized his statement. Now, Tipra Motha’s chief and ‘King of Tripura,’ Pradyot Manikya, has suggested that Bangladesh should be broken into two pieces.

Pradyot Manikya said, “Spending crores on technological advancements and planning is unnecessary. Instead, Bangladesh should be broken apart, and India should take control of the maritime routes.”

He further added, “The Chittagong Hill Tracts are home to many indigenous people who wanted to be part of India in 1947. Millions of Tripuri, Garo, Khasi, and Chakma communities are living there under severe conditions. For our national interest and their welfare, we should take action.” He also mocked Yunus, calling him an “85-year-old interim leader.” Manikya pointed out that the port mentioned by Yunus is only a few miles away from Tripura.

Last week, Yunus visited China, where he was heard stating that India’s seven northeastern states—known as the Seven Sisters—are landlocked and surrounded by mountains, with no direct access to the sea. “We are the maritime guardian of that region, so Chinese economic trade can easily expand there,” Yunus said. His remarks have caused an uproar in political and diplomatic circles.

Notably, the Seven Sisters comprise Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.
